A Look at Pedro Pascal’s Upcoming Film and Television Roles - Nerds and Beyond (2024)

Pedro Pascal captivated audiences when he arrived on screen in late 2019 as the mysterious and intriguing masked bounty hunter named Din Djarin in the inaugural live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian.

Prior to that, he had made a name for himself in other series, from diving into the gritty life of Javier Peñain the crime drama Narcos to the more sensual, cunning Oberyn Martell in the fantasy world of Game of Thrones. More recently, he portrayed the fascinatingly eccentric, villainous Maxwell Lord in DC’s sequel film Wonder Woman 1984, followed by superhero Marcus Moreno in We Can Be Heroes.

So what’s next on the slate in Pascal’s growing filmography? Let’s take a look.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Things are about to get very meta in Tom Gormican’s upcoming Nicolas Cage flick, which comes from a screenplay co-written with Kevin Etten. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent sees Cage in the leading role of … well … himself. Pascal, meanwhile, will portray an eccentric superfan of Cage. After receiving a million-dollar offer to attend the aforementioned fan’s birthday party, Cage later finds himself recruited by a CIA operative (Tiffany Haddish) and will have to channel his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters to ensure the safety of his loved ones.

The film also stars Sharon Horgan, Alessandra Mastronardi, Lily Sheen, Jacob Scipio, Neil Patrick Harris, and Paco León.

Release Date: April 22, 2022

The Last of Us

Pascal will be making waves across another popular franchise soon enough; he will soon be gracing our television screens as a lead character in HBO’s upcoming series adaptation of The Last of Us. The show is written by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann (video game director and co-president of Naughty Dog) and is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television.

Based on Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed action-adventure survival video game for PlayStation, The Last of Us is set 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Pascal will portray Joel, a hardened survivor hired to smuggle a 14-year-old girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone. This small job eventually unravels into a brutal, heartbreaking journey as the pair traverses across the U.S., depending on one another for survival.

The series also starsGabriel Lunaas Joel’s brother Tommy, Merle Dandridge as Marlene,Nico Parkeras Joel’s daughter, andJeffrey Pierceas a rebel in a quarantine zone named Perry. Murray Bartlett and Con O’Neill will guest star.

The Bubble

Earlier this year, Judd Apatow’s next film was announced. The Bubble is a meta comedy for Netflix that focuses on a group of actors and their “pandemic bubble” (a la COVID-19) in a hotel while they’re shooting a film. The film comes from a script co-written with South Park‘s Pam Brady, and Pascal stars alongside a killer cast lineup that includes Karen Gillan, Keegan-Michael Key, Iris Apatow, Fred Armisen, Maria Bakalova, David Duchovny, Leslie Mann, and Peter Serafinowicz.

Release Date: Unknown, but it’s worth noting that Gillan shared a celebratory video about wrapping on the film at the end of April.

Tropico

Pascal is set to appear in Tropico, a thriller directed by Giada Colagrande with a screenplay from Barry Gifford. Though minimal information has been released about the production since 2019, the synopsis details that it will follow “Raymond Sanz (Willem Dafoe), a veteran operative hired to spy on Mark, an American businessman (Pascal) in a steamy coastal town in Northern Brazil. However, things get more complicated when Sanz falls simultaneously for Mark’s wife, the mysterious and beautiful Lucia (Morena Baccarin), and her equally beautiful identical twin sister, Olivia (Baccarin).”

The Mandalorian season 3

A Look at Pedro Pascal’s Upcoming Film and Television Roles - Nerds and Beyond (1)

Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian has been a success on all fronts throughout seasons 1 and 2, mesmerizing audiences with its compelling characters and faithfulness to the Star Wars universe. Pascal leads the show as Din Djarin, waltzing around in an intimidating wardrobe of beskar armor and conveying an impressive amount of emotions through his body language and the cadence of his voice alone. There’s also something to be said about the endearing amount of chemistry he has with the puppet behind his tiny green bounty-turned-sidekick Grogu.

Pascal will reprise his role in the series in its upcoming third season.

Release Date: Unknown, but we definitely won’t see an October/November 2021 release this time around. Hopefully we’ll see the continued exploits of Din in 2022. In the meantime, The Book of Boba Fett will be coming to Disney+ this December.
